yo brendan, u're keeping track of those rejection receipts, right? i found out a few weeks after one unsuccessful night of withdrawals at a bank of china atm that the bastards had charged me for the money i never got. moral: always keep those damn receipts... maybe u do anyway. i was just lazy and usually ended up throwing them away without a second glance

I almost miss the Harbinren (as well as their population of Elesiren who constantly mistake me for one of their own)... though your mentioning of the Three Represents makes me cry with boredom. Good show.

Brendan - I'm an old fart friend of your old fart father who just visited me in Arizona and blathered on about many things in a semi-drunken stupor for several days. As always, it was clear that most of what he said was a pile of shit, but interestingly enough he recommended this site as a constant source of astute insight into a specific subset of the human condition. Unbelievably, he was correct! My wife (Debi) and I spent several hours reading most of your work and I must admit you have quite a knack at making me feel both young and old at the same time, which is hard to do and probably incomprehensible to you anyway. Nevertheless, I'm hooked and will be checking in from time to time to vicariously enjoy your continuing sagas. Keep it flowing. Great stuff.

I got screwed twice by the atms, when I treid to withdraw 1000 but i only got 900 back. i couldn't complain to anyone either cause the banks where closed and I was leaving town the next day. You got to watch out.

And On the Road isn't overrated. Y'all are just thinking to much.

Jon - the entire Beat movement is overrated.

Meg - I'm going to try to write in here more this semester. Really.

John - Amazingly, no; I get paid in cash and haven't bothered to get a Chinese bank account, although this will probably change: I'm moving to Beijing in August, and will really need to find some way of saving money by keeping it locked securely (ish) away from myself.

My China Construction Bank ATM card rarely fails me. As long as you've been in China, don't you have a normal Chinese bank account?

One time the ATM machine deducted the 1000 rmb for my account and then gave me an error message and no money. After a bunch of phone calls and waiting, it all got cleared up though.

As I read successive episodes, I keep hearing
Willie Nelson singing in the background. But
then, I ALWAYS hear Willie Nelson singing some-
thing or other. Stay crazy, Brendan stay the
course, order from Staples.

There are moments of this saga that remind me of "On the Road" (despite the fact that book is overrated)
