The net connection is down at my apartment; someone (i.e., me) forgot to pay the DSL bill. Several long updates are coming, once I get ‘net acces again.
In the meantime, a belated happy Fourth of July to my American readers. I observed Independence Day in a bar near the Harbin Institute of Technology with Jerry, the only other American left in Harbin.
We were playing our own CDs all night, and some HIT students at the bar took an interest and asked us what the songs were. ‘You Gotta Fight for Your Right to Party,’ by The Beastie Boys, was playing at the time, and I endeavoured a quick and dirty translation into Chinese, and told them that our nation was founded upon the right to party.
And we sat there, drinking Harbin Beer and chanting along to the song’s chorus: “Wei Kaixin de Quanli er Zhandou!“
