I like that a lot, JP. Do you know what the original Chinese title is? I’d like to check it out – Li Bai’s the most famous Chinese poet, but I’ve actually read relatively few of his poems in the original Chinese, compared to Su Dongpo and Bai Juyi, whose writing I find much easier.

That joy that you felt for one minute while watching this little girl singing her song reminds me of this word by Li Tai Po also known as Li Bai (701-762) who once wrote:
” Vous me demandez quel est le supr�me bonheur, ici-bas? C’est d’�couter la chanson d’une petite fille qui s’�loigne apr�s vous avoir demand� son chemin. ”
In English it could go like this:
“If you ask me what is the most delightest thing in this world?,
Listen to the song of a little girl who walks away after she has asked you her way…”
Staggering isn’t it???

I’ve only been here teaching in France for about a month, but I’ve really tried to get out and see some sites, exhibits, etc. I think that it adds a lot to the whole ‘experience’ if you will. Not to mention helping improve my language skills. I’ve gotten into somewhat of a bad rut spending too much time with other English speakers.
