No posts this week: I’ve got about 5 different deadlines coming due, from smaller translation and editing gigs to a fairly large, rushed script translation. Will be doing stuff for an acquaintance next week as well, so there may be nothing then either. After I finish everything, I think I’m going to take a break from freelancing for a month or two, and start thinking about what exactly I’m doing here. Also, while my experiment with using bokane.org for shorter, brain-fartier pieces has been fun, I’m inclining strongly towards going back to reserving this space for longer, better pieces instead.

Heh, I don’t find your “shorter, brain-fartier pieces” especially short or farty.
You and your high standards…
Posted 30 Nov 2006 at 5:47 pm ¶There’s the ungrammatic resumes of students heading out
And scripts from film-school lackeys lacking plot or any clout
The de-lux condo pamphlets selling mansion revelry
The corporate VC pitches, just ignore the ‘bezzelry
The QQ user manuals filled with pointing, clicking bliss
They’d none of ‘em be missed–they’d none of ‘em be missed!
Err… that’s what you get in 5 minutes anyway. Good luck with the editing.

I’m not really sure in which direction “the blog” will go. You definitely get the traffic with the longer pieces, but the shorter pieces seem to have that wonderful, self-made feel, that didn’t come with expectations. Makes me wonder in the future when blogging is over and done with, which blogs will stand out as being truly iconic.

Posted 02 Dec 2006 at 4:57 pm ¶So, uh… how long is a week again?
Posted 11 Dec 2006 at 11:25 pm ¶Looks to be a Chinese week…. lol
Posted 14 Dec 2006 at 6:18 pm ¶ahem?

Posted 19 Dec 2006 at 2:46 pm ¶Why have I been getting comments promoting that website on both my English and Chinese blogs? It looks like it might be a useful site for expats who can’t speak Chinese, but to be honest, I’m not really interested in helping people who can’t speak Chinese.
John and Admiral — Jesus, guys, patience! I’m only just crawling out from under my workload now, and I’ve got a bunch of other attendant translations coming up too.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hannakah, Happy Birthday and Happy Arbor Day!
Cheers :)

Posted 20 Dec 2006 at 10:56 am ¶Why did a China-related search engine pick a phonetic name completely unrelated to anything Chinese. Jongo isn’t even bad pinyin.
